As I gaze out of my office window I see the wind whisking the leaves from the branches and swirling them up in the air to land who knows where. As I watch the gusts take action over and over again it has me thinking about the way our lives get blown hither and thither by outside events and other peoples drama. Which leads me to thinking about all the different ways we give our power away.
The winds of our lives are always blowing, but does that mean we have to be like a leaf, at the mercy of the prevailing current or can we be more like the limbs of a tree, flexible yet anchored to the trunk?
When we are unsure of who we are, have low self esteem or are stuck in the low energy fields of stress and depression it is so easy to believe that our good feelings come from something outside of us. Have you ever experienced any of these thoughts?
"If 'he' or 'she' looks at me and pays me attention, then I'll feel good."
"I'll feel happy when I get that promotion."
"When we move into our dream home everything will be great."
"If I just had £5000 in the bank I'll feel safe."
"I'll take better care of myself when I lose 2 stone (30lbs)."
Perhaps you have thought or said some of these things in your life, perhaps you still do. It's okay, we're all on a journey, remember.
The truth is that we need to look for our good from the inside out not the other way around. Learning to love and accept who we are and coming to know at a deep level that we are okay and that even if we want to do better and be better, we will be more successful if we talk to ourselves positively rather than negatively.
It is said that there are only 3 things to consider when reviewing a property: Location, location, location.
Well when it comes to treating yourself better there are also three things to know: Stop all criticism, stop all criticism, stop all criticism.
How often do you beat yourself up, make yourself wrong, tell yourself you are stupid, fat, lazy, ugly or any other dis-empowering statement. NEWSFLASH - IT'S NOT TRUE.
Just like a new born babe, you are perfect, even in your imperfections, you are perfect.
Life has programmed certain things into you, but just like a computer you can delete stuff that doesn't work and install new programming.
Start catching yourself when you are criticising and flip it into a positive statement about yourself. Find things to appreciate about yourself, congratulate yourself when you do something well. By practicing this new programming you will wipe out the old stuff and start to recognise your inner well-being.
Become like the tree branch, be flexible when the winds of life blow, stay anchored in the truth of your okay-ness and start to love who you are.
I love you, you are already all right.
In Love
