Winter's coming

The trees that frame my office window are turning red and gold and the leaves are becoming more scarce. This got me thinking about the nature of our lives and of the seasons. As winter creeps up and the day light gets shorter I recognise that, just like the trees, now is my opportunity to turn within, to reflect on the new growth that has been achieved in the spring and summer, the autumn harvest I have reaped from that growth and now to plan what seeds to sow for the forthcoming year.

Just like on the land, we are the farmers for the fertile soil of our minds. And in the same way, we can only do our part, the rest is down to Spirit, the Universe, God or Mother Earth to provide the sunshine and rain.

I saw a quote the other day - Life is like photography, we develop from the negative.

The rain of our life is just as important to our growth as the sunshine, the time of rest and fallowness is just as important as the thrusting forth of new creation. Everything is in balance and harmony.

There is a phrase in personal development that I have been struggling with for some time. "If your not growing your dieing."  I have finally decided that isn't true for me. I think it is important to have the times of quiet reflection, the time when our sap isn't rising and we allow all that has been before to integrate fully into our lives.

Nature always shows us the way. If we grow the same crops in the same field for too long the yield drops and finally nothing will grow. Even with crop rotation and fertilisation soil need rest, we are no different as we are part of nature.

Constantly pushing, thrusting, racing forward will result in an empty field if you don't take time to rest, reflect and evaluate what and where you are in life. The paradoxical thing is, when you stop and allow yourself to drift for a moment in the river of life all the things you have been pushing for suddenly fall into place.

Take a moment to watch the changing seasons, breathe the cooler autumn air and allow it to calm you. Be like a tree, let go of this years growth, turn within and nurture yourself, storing up energy for the planting of next years fresh new buds.

You are one with all things, never separate, never alone, always nourished and loved. You only need to recognise this truth for your life to be forever transformed.

In Love
